Information for Teachers:
An informal letter has five parts.
The Heading: Includes the return address and the date, for example:
Street no. 1 Medina Town
Chalk no. 9/BC Bahawalpur
06 January, 2021.
The Greeting: or salutations means “Hello”/ Assalam –o-Alikum, Dear Arif, (All of the words used for greetings usually start with the capital letter).
The body: has the message of the letter.
Closing:means “Goodbye”, your friend, etc. Capitalize the first letter of the first word in the closing.
In signature: write your name.
An informal letter has five parts;
In informal letters, day to day language is used.
In informal letters, contractions can be used.
Notes and Letters are usually written for invitations sending reminders, saying thanks, asking permission, wishing get well soon, etc.
While teaching the lesson, the teacher should also consult the textbook.
Materials / Resources
Writing board, marker, Chart / picture in the end of the lesson
Introduction:
Show the attached picture/chart of “Parts of a Friendly letter” to the students and ask them to tell what they can see in the picture/charts.
Ask them to tell the different parts of the letter they have seen in the picture/chart.
Introduce the parts of a letter to the students with the help of the picture/chart.

Activity 1
Write the following letter on the writing board anfd ask the students to copy.
Ask the students to work in pairs and point out the parts of the following letter with Heading, Greeting, Body, Closing, and Signature.

Activity 2
Draw the following letter template on the writing board and ask the students to copy.
Write the letter in jumbled order and ask the students to write the letter in a proper way.
Tell them to rewrite the letter by using appropriate capitalizations and punctuation.
Monitor and help the students.

Letter in Jumbled Order

Sum up / Conclusion
Ask the students to tell the conventions of letter writing.
The heading has the return address and the date.
The greeting says “Hello” to the reader. Usually all the starting letters of words in the greeting are capitalized.
The body is the message you want to send the reader.
The closing says “Goodbye” to the reader. Only capitalize the first letter of the word of the closing and it ends with a comma.
The signature is your name. It tells the reader who wrote the letter.
Assessment
Once the students complete writing, ask them to exchange and check each other`s work for correct capitalization, punctuation and the conventions of letter writing discussed in the class.
Ask the students to make corrections in the light of the feedback given by their peers before you take their work to check.
Involve the students in solving the problems related to letter writing given in the exercise of the textbook.
Ask the students to write a letter to their friends and invite them to their house for a visit.
