Information for Teachers
· Adjectives are words that modify or describe a noun or noun phrase.
· Adjective describe characteristics of different things. For example: in the sentence. That’s a big house!, the adjective ‘big’ provides information which describes the noun ‘house’.
· There are different types of adjectives.

Chalk/marker, board, flashcards of different adjectives
Worm up activity
· Ask the students about adjectives as they are already familiar with the term “adjectives”.
· Note down the responses of the students.
· Now briefly tell them about adjectives and share some sentences with the students.
· Now ask the students To identify adjectives from the examples:
1. I saw a beautiful butterfly.
2. I have some sweets in my bag.
3. It is a big/small room.
4. We are Pakistani.
5. I have a pink and white dress.
6. Zahra has a round face.
Development
Activity 1
· Draw the following table on the board.
· Tell the students that adjectives can be classified into following categories.

· Write some more examples on the board with students’ help. Examples:
Ø The foolish crow tried to sing.
Ø There are several mistakes in your exercise.
Ø She is an Pakistani woman.
Ø Zubair is a tall boy.
Ø My eraser has a square shape.
Ø I like red roses.
· Then call different students in turns on the board to identify the category and place the adjective appropriately in the given columns.
· After that ask students to find out six sentences containing the adjectives of quality, quantity, size, shape, color and origin from their books.
· Ask the students to point out the adjectives and then classify them into the given categories.
Activity 2
· Make the flashcards of the following words and keep them in the basket.
(Few, intelligent, honest, little, much, half, blue, brown, black, short, long, tiny, huge, cylindrical, rectangle, French, Turkish, Japanese)
· Draw the above mentioned table of activity 1 on the board.
· Now call any volunteer to come to the board and pick up a flashcard from the basket and write the word under its category.
· Continue this activity tell the flashcards in the basket finish.
Sum up / Conclusion
· Quickly revise the lesson ask them the questions like below:
Ø What are adjectives?
Ø What have we learnt about their classification today?
· Ask students to make a shopping list using some of the newly learnt adjectives.
(Examples: big oranges, white tissues, a beautiful carpet
Assessment
· Give them the following adjectives and ask them to write these words in the given blanks:
1. Many, 2. Brave, 3. Tall, 4. Pink, 5. Round, 6. Pakistani
v I have ___________books at home.
v Ahmad is a _______ soldier.
v I like ____________food.
v Hassan is a ________ boy.
v He has a __________face.
v Saadia is wearing a _________dress.
· Tell the students that more than one word can be used in the blanks.
Follow up
· Give them the following sentences and ask them to tick the appropriate adjective.
1. People wear _______clothes in winter. (warm/cold)
2. It was a ___________hall. (big/few)
3. A ________________can of Pepsi was lying on the table. (cube shaped/ cylindrical)
4. I can buy a _________books today. (few/more)
