- Recognize and apply capitalization to the initial letter of proper nouns: days of the week and months of the year.
Information for Teachers

Check students “B Form” or “admission form” so the students learn their correct month and year of birth.
- The activities mentioned below can be done in many different ways like, Duties chart, Student on duty day, Homework plan, Weekly tests, School Lunch Plan, etc.
- Rules for Capitalization:
- The first letter of each sentence is capital, as;
- Go to Lahore.
- Mind your own business.
- Don`t spit on the floor
- The first letter of names of days & months is written capital, as; Sunday, Monday, January, etc.
- The first letter of each new line in the poem is capital, as;
- Green parrot sing,
- Sing of the day,
- Beyond the cage
- The first letter of the Direct Speech is written in capital, as;
- He asked me, “Please help me”.
- The abbreviated letters of name or each part of the proper noun is written in capital, as;
- Khalid Mehmood, M.A. English + B. Ed
- All the names of Allah Almighty are always begin with capital letter, as;
- Almighty, Merciful, God,
- To begin all proper nouns and their derived adjectives, as;
- Holy Quran, Indus River, Khalid Mehmood, Lahore
- The pronoun ‘I’ and the ‘O’ are always written in the capital letter, everywhere, as;
- I am the one whom you wanted.
- O` God! Bless me.
- While teaching the lesson, the teacher should also consult textbook at all steps where and when applicable.

Introduction
- Instructions: Ask one student the following question. Ask them to first write the day they like on the board in the first column of the table shown and you can write the reason in a few words in the second column.
- Q. Which day of the week you like the most and why?
A. I like Sunday because_______(help to answer in complete sentence)

Fill in the table on the board with the students. Then explain that these days are special names so we start writing them with a first letter capital. Now call a student on the board and ask him / her to make corrections of capitalization, if required.

Teaching Approach: Group and Individual work
Activity 2
- Revision Plan: Divide the class in pairs or groups. Ask the students to make a Revision Plan for the English lessons they have already done in class.

- Write the correct day of the week in the sentences.
- 1. Seven day after Saturday is_________?
- 2. Five days before Saturday is ________?
- 3. Seven days after Wednesday is ______?
- 4. Tow days before Friday is __________?
- 5. Four days after Friday is ____________?
Activity 4
- Show the poem on the chart paper to the students.

Ask some students to read the poem and think what the poem tells. Elicit from the students with proper questioning that there are different number of days in months.
- Then put up a calendar of the current year on the wall in the classroom and ask the students to do the following:
a. Put a tick mark on their birthday month.
b. Encircle the date of birth and day.
c. Check the first letter of days and months.
- Count the number of tick marks on each month and see which month has more birthdays. Ask what they noticed about first letter of days and months. (Keep this calendar displayed in the classroom for the whole academic year so you and the students wish birthday to each other)
Conclusion / Sum up
- Write some names of days and months on the board with capitalization mistakes in few of them. Ask the students to find the mistakes and make corrections. Reinforce the rule of capitalization.

- Teacher is also required to involve the student in solving the problems given in the exercise at end of unit / chapter.
Follow up
- Let students` daily write complete date on the board and ensure that all students get turn.

- This date writing style will cover all the days and months with clear concept of capitalization and will continually be assessed.
- Don`t forget to write ordinal numbers for date like 1st, 22nd, 13th, 23rd, etc.
- Ask the students to copy the class timetable in their notebooks.
- Learn by heart the poem of months.
