Subject Mathematics

Grade 2nd

Students` Learning Outcomes

§  Backward counting ten steps down from any given number is also known as counting in Tens in reverse order.

§  For counting backward ten steps down from any given number first we write counting in reverse order and add zero with it.

Material / Resources

Writing board, chalk / marker, duster, textbook

Introduction

  • Write on the board counting from 10 -1.
  • Tell the students that this is backward counting from 10 to 1.
  • Explain them that while counting 10 steps down from 100 we will just add 0 in the above.
  • Write on the board.

  • Tell the students that today we will learn more about counting tens steps down.

Development

Activity 1

  • Write on the board:
  • Asking the students what is this? (Backward counting from 20-11)
  • Tell them that now we are going to write backward counting from 200 to 110.
  • For this write 200 on the board.
  • Ask the students to write 110 steps down from 200 in their notebooks.
  • Observe their work and guide them.
  • At the end demonstrate on the board.

Activity 2

  • Divide the class in group.
  • Assign different 3-digits numbers to the groups.
  • As them to write 3-digits numbers in their notebooks
  • Ask them to write counting backward ten steps down from 3-digit number.
  • For this we read backward counting in tens.

Sum up / Conclusion

  • For counting backward 10 steps down we write counting in reverse order and add zero at the end.

  • For counting backward 10 steps down we only change the digit at tens place.

Assessment

  • Write backward counting ten steps down.

Follow up

  • Write backward counting ten steps from 50 to 0.
  • Ask the students to solve the questions given in their notebooks.
